Origins
Believe it or not, the idea of a modern Christmas tree actually originated in Germany in the sixteenth century, where the first decorations usually took the form of hanging or placing candles on the branches of the tree, much different from the extravagant and over-the-top decorations of the present day. The idea of decorating a Christmas tree in the UK became fashionable nearly two hundred years ago during the reign of Queen Victoria when she was pictured with her family beside a large real Christmas tree covered in traditional ornaments mostly made of glass.

You can be sure that our decorations will hang on your new real tree without making it droop or look sad during the most wonderful time of the year. The key is to not overload your tree!
Which type of tree is best for decorating?
At our farm, there is not really a bad choice in terms of choosing a tree to decorate with your family. Both of our trees are excellent choices for a day of decoration, but what are the differences?
The most traditional tree, the Norway Spruce has a great shape and usually has a wonderful scent that will fill your living room with that festive feeling. The Norway Spruce can sometimes be a little sharp to the touch, with smaller and sharper needles than its counterpart the Nordmann Fir. However, the spruce is still an excellent choice to decorate due to its incredible shape and large number of branches that are amazing for hanging lots of little decorations.
The most popular tree in the UK is the Nordmann Fir, and for good reason. It possesses that traditional shape of the Christmas tree that we know and love and has super soft needles that make it that much easier to decorate with your family, especially if you have little ones. Another benefit of the Nordmann Fir is that it has long and strong branches that make hanging heavier decorations that much easier if you love your glass baubles!

We open our doors on the 26th of November for you to come and grab your real tree and we stay open all the way to the 23rd of December so pop down as soon as you can and grab a few of our decorations while you’re at it. We look forward to seeing you very soon!
